Microdermabrasion
is a progressive, non-surgical, treatment
that propels natural crystals onto the
surface of the skin for gentle epidermal
abrasion that reveals newer, healthier,
younger skin. This process of gradually
abrading epidermal cells is used to treat
a vast range of skin problems. It is also
used in conjunction with other skin care
products and services provided by The
Chicago Look. Some common skin problems
that are treated with microdermabrasion
are sun-damaged skin, uneven skin tones
and textures, fine lines and wrinkles,
enlarged pores, blackheads and pimples,
skin discolorations, age spots, and body
stretch marks.
Microdermabrasion works by doing two things:
It corrects the thickness of the skin
and it stimulates the skin. The speed
of the crystal flow causes an abrasive
action that gently removes the surface
layers of the skin, allowing smoother,
fresher skin to merge. The vacuum action
of the device helps to stimulate microcirculation,
increasing blood supply that provides
nutrients needed for skin regeneration.
It also stimulates formation of new collagen
and elastin to improve texture and elasticity.
The treatment can provide some discomfort.
The worst cases have been described as
feeling like mild sunburn. The appearance
of the skin after treatment is that of
a pink glow and you can resume your normal
activities almost immediately. Each treatment
takes 10 to 30 minutes depending on which
area is being treated. When combined with
other treatments, it may take longer.
